the come- back bird

mid last year, my dad brought us a green lorikeet. he was beautiful, and we never dreamed about him flying away. well, he did.

we were on holidays when it happened. my grandad allways comes to care for the pets, and he had left a note telling us about the misfortune of the bird flying away. how sad we were.

well, 3 days past, and still no bird, by the way, his name is migi. we live just up the road from a beautiful national park, and we often go for walks down to the waterfall.

on the sunday after his escape, we went walking down there, and on the way back, my sister decided to call him. and boy did the bird answer that call. we found him on the highest branch of a eucalyptus tree, and with the aid of his favourite food, and apple, we caught him, safe and sound.

he is now the happiest bird you ever did see in a cage, and i don't think his planning another escape- at least not soon enough!!

I can understand your joy and know how you would have felt when you found out your bird was gone, and then found. I too lost my pet magpie and after 5 long months, finally found her. The feeling cannot be described. You have to lose and find a loved one to understand.

Lorikeets are gluttons for food. I've also found my missing lorikeets in adjacent bushland and enticed them straight inside the big tin of their food :)
