Those clever little Weka's
We own a golf course with a beautiful back drop of Native bush over on the West Coast of the South Island.
Number two and number three holes on the course have a short and a long option to the golfer, the short option is as the crow flies and cuts accross a part of the native bush, a lot of golf balls have been lost in this area and only the golfers with a big hit can get across on to the greens.
To our amazement though, every time Murphy (Black Lab) Harry (Ginger cat) and I go walking there are a few golf balls at the edge of the fence line, firstly we thought it was just golfers not seeing where the ball had landed but now we konow that is not the case. It is the Weka's a native bird with a cheeky friendly attitude that are picking them up in their long beaks or pushing them out of the over grown bush area to the golf course. We thought they may think they are intruders eggs and want rid of them!!
