The Dog who wants to be a Frog
I was cleaning up my patio recently and had pulled out the chairs to wash down. Merlot, a 3.y.o Jack Russel, usually uses these to get up onto the table, so I thought that with them pulled away, he would have to stay on the ground. How wrong I was! I bent over near the table, to carry on with my cleaning, when I felt a thud on my back. Merlot had decided to use me for his ‘stepping stone.’
He now does this at other times too, but has taken it one step further – by playing leapfrog. I can be bent over pulling flat weeds out, or weeding the garden, when his ‘brother,’ Fudge (a Kelpie X) decides to charge at him. Rather than going around me as a shield, Merlot jumps over me – without any warning (but I haven’t toppled over yet!). He’ll do this each time I move, and I’m sure if we were seen in fast-forward, it would look like we were playing leapfrog. It appears Merlot wants to try being a frog!
