Submission guidelines

You can write about anything to do with animals, but here are some guidelines.

• Your story must be true and about animal/s. It should be an original composition by you.
• Your story can be anything from 50 to 1000 words in length.
• Your story should be written from your point of view, not the animal's.
• Mailed submissions may or may not appear on the website and will not be returned unless a stamped self-addressed envelope is provided, and the return of the document is requested.
• The writers of stories selected for publication in our books will be notified prior to publication of the edition in which their story will be included. As stories are being continually selected for new editions, writers may not be notified if their story is not being included - as it may be selected for a later edition.
• Stories are welcome from everybody, and given the charitable nature of our projects, there will be no payment awarded.
• Partner animal charities and Smarter than Jack Limited have the right to publish extracts from the stories received without restriction of location or publication, provided the publication of those extracts helps publicise the Smarter than Jack series.

Submissions can be sent by using the online form or by mail. Remember to include:

• Your name
• Postal address (including country)
• Email address
• Phone number
• Indicate if you do not wish your name to be included with your story.
