My Protector

In 1960, my husband and I lived in Sydney. My husband was ill with pneumonia and the Dr had made a house call (it used to happen back then) leaving a script for antibiotics, which I took to the all night Chemist about 20 minutes walk away. There was a 10 minute delay so I walked up the street to fill in some time. A huge German Shepherd followed me. I don't know where he came from but he was well cared for and although a little aloof, he stayed by my side.
When I picked up the medication from the Chemist, I forgot the dog and started for home.
I had to walk past an R.S.L Club and a drunk staggered out almost knocking me off my feet.
Suddenly the German Shepherd was there. He stood between me and the drunk, baring his teeth and growling. The drunk staggered back inside and I continued home, with my "Protector" leading the way.
He came inside and sniffed my husband, then went out onto the front porch where he settled down to sleep. He stayed all night but left very early next morning.......the spot was still warm when I went outside to see him.
I have never forgotten that incident.

Thanks for the story. This dog seems to be a guardian angel, he didn't stay... the presence of animals leaves footprints on our hearts.

Lovely story. Maybe he was on a journey and felt the need to be your protector.
